The 19th Annual Putnam County Fall Classic Half Marathon & 5K. Sept. 30. 8 a.m. The Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsy Association hosts the 19th-annual Putnam County Fall Classic Half Marathon & 5K at Brewster Founder’s Day. Proceeds go to the Hudson Valley Opportunity League Park development. An Afternoon of Classical Music to benefit the Piano Fund at the Katonah Village LibrarySept. 30. 3 p.m. Head to the Katonah Village Library for a performance by cellist Robert Kogan and pianist Mimi Stern-Wolfe benefiting the library’s Piano Fund. Musicians will perform a composition by local musician Eric Stand, which will mark the piece's debut. Selections also include Stravinsky, Debussy and Shostakovich. All proceeds go to the care of the Library’s 1912 Concert D Steinway Grand Piano. A wine and cheese reception will follow the recital. Katonah Village Library, 26 Bedford Rd. $10.00.

Step Out: Walk to Stop DiabetesSept. 30. 10 a.m. Participate in the signature fund-raising walk of the American Diabetes Association, now in its 20th year. So far the event has raised $150,000,000. Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
