Yes, but "selective enforcement" more commonly means applying a law unequally. I agree with lanning the way you have used it doesn't make sense. I agree that is a revenue generator, but I think enforcing speed limits, if is is done fairly is a GOOD way to generate revenue.

I would suggest that any law that is selectively enforced is arbitrary and makes for bad law and lowers respect for the law and law enforcement. And this goes beyond speed limits.

I think you're missing the point. Yes the Police selected the time and place to deploy this detail but it was probably based upon the number of accidents with injuries at that location with speeding as a contributing factor.
Doesn't that make more sense than randomly enforcing speed limits on roads that don't have a speeding problem?

The Taconic is dangerous when drivers are speeding. Many innocent people over the years have been injured or killed. I drive the taconic every day and have seen the results of drivers not adhering to the speed limit.

The Taconic is most dangerous when people do not keep up with traffic.They poke along in the left and middle lane and people have to go around them. If you do not want to keep up with traffic, get over to the right and make the road safer for everyone.

well i am glad when i see cops waiting to catch people driving like maniacs. what gives them the right to endanger everyone else? as to why they dont catch everyone...its like when you go fishing, you dont catch every fish

I think these comments make the point well: focus police time on driving abuse on the Taconic which is rampant and does not require special details
Shooting fish in the barrel to enhance revenue serves no purpose Typical government solution to people doing 90 in a 55 is to issue abundant and random summons to people doing 60. Mindless in my view
