Woman Arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs at 92 MPH in Bedford

Two Waterbury women were arrested on multiple charges on I-684 in Bedford after police stopped them for driving 92 in a 65 mile per hour zone.

New York State Police arrested a Waterbury woman on July 18, 2014 in the Town of Bedford.

At approximately 12:29 p.m., a New York State trooper observed a motorist driving 92 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone on I-684 in Bedford. After pulling over the driver, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana.

Mildred Betancourt, 36, of Waterbury, CT was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs after failing field sobriety tests. She was also charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Speeding.

Betancourt's passenger, Johannie Cruz, 25, of Waterbury, CT, was found to have 85 Oxycodone pills and a small amount of marijuana in her possession. Police also found a large sum of money in the vehicle. Cruz was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree with intent to sell and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree. 

Both women were arraigned before the Town of Bedford Court. Betancourt was released on $3,500 bail and Cruz was sent to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Both women are due in Bedford Town Court on July 24, 2014.
