New Website and Hotline Answer Questions About NY SAFE Act

Website live now; hotline launches Monday, Jan. 21.

Editor's Note: The following information was provided by New York State Police:

In an effort to help the public, a website and hotline have been established to answer all questions about the New York SAFE Act.

The Governor’s Office has established http://www.nysafeact.com/.

On the website, gun owners and licensed dealers will find a list of frequently asked questions that have been compiled and answered by experts on this new law.

There is also a section on what is and is not considered an assault weapon. This includes photos of weapons, banned features, a list of some of the banned weapons, and those firearms that are NOT considered assault weapons.

The New York State Police have established a hotline 1-855-LAW-GUNS.

The hotline will be available starting Monday, January 21, 2013.

The hotline will run for normal business hours Monday through Friday and will be staffed by State Police members.

Doesn't anyone remember Joe Biden was a plagiarist? He gave a speech entirely lifted from a guy in England. Why do people fall for fake teeth and fake hair?
Issy January 20, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Utter nonsense, he copied and personalized some key phrases of one paragraph from Labour Leader Neil Kinnock, not the entire speech or even the majority of it.. Liz please do not be a sheeple, you are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts.
Mike January 20, 2013 at 11:11 PM
It's not nonsense Issy, in fact the point as stated is correct that the new law does not exempt police and will need t be adjusted. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local/new_york&id=8958116
Issy January 20, 2013 at 11:29 PM
Sorry, Mike but the new law does not supersede existing laws that exempts law enforcement officials to carry large magazines and use assault rifles. So yes it is utter nonsense. The Governor's office stated "Police officers possessing ammunition clip with more than seven bullets are not in violation of this law and they never will be, period," http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/18/ny-guv-looks-to-clarify-gun-law-after-concern-about-exemption-for-police/

So copying and personalizing someone else's speech isn't plagiarism? Talk about being a sheeple, you'll defend democrats at every turn no matter how stupid it makes you look.
Issy January 20, 2013 at 11:50 PM
NR can you point out where I said it was not plagiarism? I only stated the he did not lift an entire speech (as Liz had stated), but parts of one paragraph. And no I do not defend Democrats at every turn, I defend honesty and integrity and have no problem pointing out falsehoods regardless of political party. Truth matters. And if you think that makes me look stupid so be it, the opinion of someone who took another's moniker matters little to me.
Nyack Resident January 21, 2013 at 12:18 AM
Yeah your scathing criticism of the White House regarding Benghazi, Fast and Furious, gas prices, the $16.5 trillion debt, tax increases, unemployment, illegal immigration, 1 in 6 Americans on food stamps etc, etc are the stuff of legends on these pages. For someone that spends the majority of their day on the patch, you sure don't read much of your own blather.

Pray that this will save the children and our members of service n.y.p.d and other agency's.they have families too.say a prayer for them
obamasux January 21, 2013 at 12:13 PM
look at the pic all have smiles of thier idiot faces but the one on the left and hes a cop wonder what that means
Teleman January 21, 2013 at 12:40 PM
Go to Senator McClaughlins page- he has posted a list of proposals that were put forth by democrats in the state senate and rejected- he was going to read it on the floor, but the democrats didn't want him to because they don't want it out there- it included- many things including all-out confiscation of firearms and magazines- even 10 round. this is clearly where they're heading.
Teleman January 21, 2013 at 12:43 PM
I definitely suggest praying- because this law clearly does nothing to actually save lives or reduce gun crime.
Teleman January 21, 2013 at 12:44 PM
I love the hypocracy- cuomo and bloomberg both claim that out of state guns are responsible for crime in NY state- but they then require in the new law, that NY residents sell their" high capacity" magazines to out of state residents
Mike January 21, 2013 at 12:53 PM
If they are not in violation, then why is law being changed. Clearly the law is flawed. The statement you quote only reflects the state will not enforce the flawed law while it is being changed. It does not change the fact that law is wrong.
Locutus of Borg January 21, 2013 at 01:25 PM
Hypocrisy anyone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt1Zy_ASNyA
John Gruber January 21, 2013 at 03:09 PM
and what would you like to do about the millions of crashes that occur on the road each day? They're called accidents. And they happen. More people are killed by irresponsible drivers than irresponsible gun owners. You should be more scared of the idiots on the road than people at a gun show
John Gruber January 21, 2013 at 03:12 PM
you DO realize the president has almost no effect on the price of gas right?
Abby Normal January 21, 2013 at 03:24 PM
John Comparing guns that are specifically designed to kill living things with cars that are specifically designed to transport people and cargo safely is absurd and you know it.
Nyack Resident January 21, 2013 at 03:40 PM
He only does if he is a Republican, but feel free to fast forward past the other points Johnny.
stephany January 21, 2013 at 04:44 PM
"Guns MAKE good people do bad things !!!!!!!!" another blanket statement that is completely nuts
stephany January 21, 2013 at 04:45 PM
Any photo without Carlucci seems lacking..maybe the phone was busy
John Gruber January 21, 2013 at 04:59 PM
umm no, if the president controlled the price of gas that would make him a communist. And if a president COULD control the price, why would they WANT it to be high if that only reflects negatively on them? The notion that ANY president affects the price is gas is bs. Also, no one president is responsible for that $16 trillion debt.
John Gruber January 21, 2013 at 05:06 PM
really? Because my gun is not specifically designed to kill people. Mine is specifically designed to protect me or shoot at a range, not an innocent civilian. and I don't even have to fire it to scare off someone trying to rob or harm me, simply pointing it could do just as good. A gun's purpose resides in the person who wields it. Nothing more and nothing less. And it still doesn't dismiss the fact if ANYTHING is used irresponsibly it can cause unwanted/unintended harm. Also, how exactly do those sports cars that can go in excess of 200mph transport people and cargo "safely"?
bill weinblatt January 21, 2013 at 06:09 PM
Politicians and liberals who believe that restricting law abiding citizens from possessing and registering certain guns will have any effect on crime are incredibly out of touch with reality. The facts speak volumes about the percentage of crimes committed by registered handgun owners as opposed to criminals in possession of illegal handguns. PLEASE LOOK AT THE FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan Seidel January 21, 2013 at 06:17 PM
The gun grab is the current misdirection - IT'S AN AMMO GRAB that is happening as we bicker amongst ourselves: http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/feds-to-hold-ammo-advantage-over-states/
Issy January 21, 2013 at 06:25 PM
All illegal handguns were once legal handguns..... That is reality........the more we can do to stop this, the safer society will be. .
Nyack Resident January 21, 2013 at 06:31 PM
Well I'm glad you feel that way but unfortunately the MSM and Democratic politicians sure didn't echo your sentiments before 2008 when the high price of gas was all Bush's fault. If you deny that wasn't the case, you're lying.
John Gruber January 22, 2013 at 03:30 PM
No one man is responsible for that debt, it's been there even BEFORE our country existed when we asked the French for help in the Revolution, WE are responsible for it. Democrats and republicans lie all the same to spin a topic their way. Welcome to politics
joe January 30, 2013 at 06:41 PM
I have an idea! why dont all the good, law biding thitithens, give up all their legally regithtered gunth. This way, the criminalth won't have to uthe gunth, becauth the good guyth wont have gunth. And no one will get hurt.
Mark Klopf February 02, 2013 at 02:53 PM
Baseball bats. Look it up; the number one used weapon in violent crimes. These laws could not be made more ignorantly.
Mark Klopf February 02, 2013 at 03:10 PM
These laws are absolutely asinine. Nowhere in the constitution does the it say the right to bear arms FOR HUNTING shall not be infringed. Everyone is so caught up in this little detail which is allowing for total infringement of law abiding citizens rights. The right to bear arms to to deter tyranny, not hunt. Laws against bringing guns to schools; okay I can see concerns with this even though I could hunt before and after school and leave my shotgun in my locker or the principal's office without anyone worrying about me when I walked in. Stricter laws against harming first responders; Let's look at this and see how many people allow themselves to be taken alive after making this desperate attempt at whatever. The stricter laws are not a bad idea, just not very effective by the time someone is ready to do something like this. Lowering the magazine capacity; again no hunting preface was put into the constitution. Above and beyond all, GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM!!! There is many facets to this issue, but guns are not it. You sheeple need to wake up. I won't go into all the facets right now, but creating laws in the wake of suicidal actions is just beyond moronic. I have no words for how stupid this is.
