LES: Demographer to Give Presentation

Dr.  Richard Grip, the demographer behind an updated study for the Katonah-Lewisboro school district will do a presentation at Thursday's school board meeting, according to the agenda.

Grip, who is from Statistical Forecasting, LLC, will discuss a revised study that was submitted in light of possibility that Lewisboro Elementary School (LES) could be closed. Grip's study, which is available at this link on the district's website, predicts a continued drop in enrollment and takes into account a scenario in which full-day kindergarten is added.

The updated study has already been met with some skepticism. At a public hearing on Monday for the School Closure Task Force, residents questioned the methodology, such as use of what is called the cohort survival ratio, which uses recent years.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night and will be at John Jay High School's cafeteria. Additionally, there will be an update from the task force. The full agenda is available at this link.
