Avenue K Opens in Katonah

A new store with an eclectic mix of accessories has opened in downtown Katonah. Called Avenue K, owner Lynn Klein calls it an "accessories boutique" and a gift place.

Avenue K had a soft opening on Halloween and and grand opening at the start of November. Its name, according to Klein, is from its location, which is 87 Katonah Ave. The new store took over a space formerly occupied by Steger's Paper Mill before it reduced its storefront space earlier this year.

The store carries a broad range of items, including metal jewelry, leather pocketbooks, carves, capes and special audio speakers that can synch with iPhones or iPads.

Klein, who lives near by in Ridgefield, CT, used to own a store there that sold spiritual items, aroma therapy and jewelry before it closed in the early 2000s. Afterwards, she took care of her son and stayed home. Now an empty nester, she wants to return to retail.

Klein explained that she did research and found out that accessories are “very big.” She also noted how instead of buying more clothes, using accessories can allow for looking different but even with the same outfit.

Asked why she chose Katonah, Klein cited the people, fun and energy. She also likes the proximity of a train station.
