Harvey Girls a #1 Seed in LAX HVALs

Despite a loss Saturday in a non-league game, Harvey’s girls lacrosse team has earned a #1 seed and a first round bye in this week’s Housatonic Valley Athletic League playoffs.

The girls lacrosse team's four-game winning streak on the road ended against Cheshire Academy as the Lady Cavaliers lost 13-10. Cheshire, 6-2 for the year, plays in the league above Harvey but was given a run for their money Saturday morning by the Lady Cavs. It was an intense back and forth battle, but CA was able to hold the lead and secure the victory.

Down by four by goals with 8 minutes left in the game, the Lady Cavaliers turned up the heat and pulled within two goals. Harvey's attack was led by seniors Audrey Rowe with three goals, and Brittany Smith, Sammi Aloi and Julia Peraglia with two goals each. Another senior, Lily Brouwer, added one. 

Harvey’s coach Greg Janos said, despite the loss, he was pleased with his team’s effort. “Our ball movement under pressure showed improvement and the girls were supporting each other on the field.  Defensively, we did a much better job picking up players in the midfield and sticking with our opponents in the defensive zone, not allowing them to run many set plays.”

The quarterfinal bye gives the Lady Cavaliers two days off to prepare for their semifinal game at home Wednesday. Coach Janos said two days of practice will get the team ready for the HVALs. “We’ll continue to focus on our game plan and fine tune a few things. This team continues to get better every day and we will be ready for playoffs" 

The Lady Cavaliers (7-3) will play either Forman or Master’s of Conn., the two teams facing each other in Monday’s quarterfinal match.
