Coach Greg Janos said he is happy with his team’s overall performance over the past four games. “We had to make a few line-up changes due to some bumps and bruises,” the coach said, “but every girl was ready and contributed to our four wins."

Coach Greg Janos said the last four away games have been tough on his team, but he is happy the stretch of games has produced wins. “It wasn't easy but the girls played through the wear and tear from the road, on top of playing all the games back to back,” said Coach Janos. “The girls worked hard and pulled together.  They found a way to make it happen together.”

The 7-2 Lady Cavaliers will have the next two days off from traveling before going on the road Saturday to play Chesire. Coach Janos said his team could use the break. “It will allow us a chance to recover and spend some practice time ironing out a few wrinkles.

Harvey Girls Tennis Blanked by Forman

Harvey’s girls varsity tennis team was blanked 7-0 by Forman Wednesday on the courts of Katonah Memorial Park.

Harvey’s singles lineup of #1 junior Baily Hersh, #2 freshman Natalia Looney, #3 freshman Janice Cai and #4 seventh-grader Brooke Dodderidge, gave it a gallant try by could not find a win. Shut out in double matches were Harvey’s three teams of #1 Baily Hersh/Natalia Looney, #2 Janice Cai/Brooke Dodderidge and #3 Sage Meyers/Hillary Almonte. Harvey coach Christine Cahill saw some positives for the Lady Cavaliers. “Our team did a wonderful job returning shots and creating some wonderful rallies with some nice game points too.”

The girls team, only in its second year of competition, went up against the top team in the league in Forman. With only one conference match left, Friday, against Chase Collegiate, Coach Cahill said Harvey’s coaches believe their team has improved each match and “will only continue to become as a stronger varsity program.”

In keeping with its tradition of awarding a player from the opposing side a medallion for her stellar sportsmanship and obvious love for the game, Forman’s coaches recognized Dodderidge, a Mount Kisco resident.

Harvey Baseball Loses to Forman

Harvey’s baseball team lost a heartbreaker Wednesday to Forman 11-10 in a non-league matchup. The Cavaliers let an 8-3 lead get away from them and gave up eight runs in the last three innings to allow Forman to get back into the game and eventually take the lead.

Eighth-grader Pierce Steinberg was given his first start of the year on the mound and did a very nice job, going five innings and giving up only two unearned runs. He had some tough luck in the fifth inning when a ball was misplayed in the outfield, and a throwing error allowed two runs to score in the fifth inning.

Theo Rattner, a work horse for Harvey this year, came in to pitch the sixth with Harvey holding a 9-5 lead. Rattner would get the first man to pop out, and the next man to ground out, but he walked the #2 batter and give up three straight hits, including a triple to tie the game up at 9.  Harvey went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Rattner was still pitching in the seventh and once again retired the first batters for Forman, but the next batter walked, went to third on a single. A steal of second put Forman runners on second and third with two out. Coach Mike Rubenfeld then relieved Rattner and brought in John Colangelo, hoping to get one out and go into the bottom of the seventh inning with a chance to win the game.

When Colangelo went ahead in the count on the clean-up hitter, it looked like Harvey had a chance to get out of the inning, but a 1-2 fastball was stroked through the hole and into left field to score both the two runners in scoring position, giving Forman an 11-9 lead.

Harvey did not go down in the seventh without a fight. With his team trailing by two, Ben Alper would lead off with a walk. After a fly out, Theo Rattner would follow with a single, and his brother Curtis would then walk to load the bases with one out. Corey Eisenband hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Ben Alper from third and bringing Harvey within one run of tying the game.

With two out, the Cavaliers had the tying run at third and the winning run at first, with the #3 hitter Mike Chavkin at the plate. Chavkin would hit the ball hard but right at the center fielder to end the game.

Coach Mike Rubenfeld said it was a tough game to lose. “I was disappointed with the loss, but was glad to see the fight in the last inning and the life the bench brought all game.

On a positive note, every one of Harvey’s starters had a hit. Harvey will look to bounce back Friday when the Cavaliers host NYMA. Harvey will host Chase in the final regular season game of the year Saturday before the first round of the playoffs next Monday.
