Harvey's Girls LAX, Boys Baseball Get Wins

Harvey's girls lacrosse and boys baseball chalk up wins Friday.

It was a matchup Friday between the two teams that had battled for the HVAL girls lacrosse crown last year, but this time Harvey beat Watkinson. In a hard fought, high scoring battle in the mud and pouring rain on the road in Hartford, Conn., the Lady Cavaliers defeated the Lady Rams, 14-12.

The game's momentum went back and forth with Harvey taking an early lead and going into the half ahead by four goals. After the intermission, Watkinson came out strong, scoring three quick goals cutting the Harvey's lead down to one.  The Lady Cavs stood strong, held off their opponents and scored two more goals to allow for a little breathing room. Harvey never gave up the lead.

Leading the charge for Harvey was senior Brittany Smith who recorded five goals and three assists. Audrey Rowe scored four goals and picked up one assist. Aliya Mayers, a Pleasantville resident, and Lily Brouwer each had two goals while Sami Aloi scored one. Sophia Scarsella of Briarcliff Manor continues to hold her ground. The seventh-grader chipped in on offense with two assists.

Harvey coach Gregg Janos said the victory came from a solid team effort."

This was a huge win for us. The girls came together like a family and played hard for each other. Even though we still made mistakes that could have turned the tables, the girls were able to pull out a victory. They demonstrated a ton of heart and determination.  I'm extremely proud of them."

Harvey, now 3-1 on the early season, will face Wooster at home Tuesday, April 15.

The boys lacrosse team did not fare as well. The Cavaliers lost at home 10-0 to King.

Harvey's baseball team went on the road to New Windsor and came home with a 16-2 victory over Storm King School

Meanwhile, the girls softball team lost at home 15-11 to The Convent of the Sacred Heart of Greenwich.
