[Updated] Bedford Preps for Icy Weather

Both Bedford Central and Katonah Lewisboro are operating on an early dismissal schedule for Mon. Jan. 28.

[Updated, 1:20 p.m. Monday] Bedford Public Works Commissioner Kevin Winn said his crews laid plenty of salt and sand on the roads throughout the morning.

"The concern is the rest of the day," he said at about 1 p.m. Through the afternoon and into the evening, Winn and other department members will be watching for freezing rain and additional precipitation, which would mean more salt and sand to "keep the roadways safe."

Winn noted that, in the event of icy rain, local folks should be especially careful on dirt roads, as those "freeze over" first.

Bedford Schools will be dismissing the Fox Lane High School and Fox Lane Middle School at 10:30 a.m.  All elementary schools will dismiss early at 11:30 a.m.

Katonah Lewisboro will dismiss John Jay Middle School at 10:30 a.m.; John Jay High School at 11:30 a.m. and all elementary Schools at 12:30 p.m. There will be no afternoon kindergarten.

The snow will begin late morning, according to the NWS, mixing with sleet by the afternoon and changing to freezing rain and drizzle by the evening. The ice accumulation on the road could make for slippery driving conditions.

Temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees today and below freezing tonight. The ice could stick around until Tuesday morning, when the air should warm into the mid 40s.
