Martha Stewart Seeks Special Permit for Storage Center

Plus, the planning board hears from a bevy of potential new businesses including a gelato and homemade pasta shop.

Tuesday night's planning board meeting opens with a public hearing for Martha Stewart's architect, Patrick Croke, to present plans for a new storage building on Stewart's 137-acre property on the corner of Girdle Ridge Road and Maple Avenue.

Because the building will exceed 2,500 square feet in size and 20 feet in height, the board must approve a special use permit in order for Stewart to construct the building. The storage facility would be in addition to the 14 other buildings that are on the property, including the main residence, a gym, a barn, a stable, two greenhouses and several other outer buildings.

The public hearing begins at 8 p.m., immediately followed by a public hearing for the Unitarian Fellowship to present plans to develop a bilingual preschool/day care facility at 111 Bedford Road in Bedford Corners.

Also on the agenda are presentations from two potential new businesses: Johnny's Gelato, at 132 Green Lane in Bedford Hills, and a homemade pasta shop in Katonah, where Scoops recently went out of business.

Johnny's Gelato, now based in Kent, NY, would sell homemade gelato flavors like Sea Salt Chocolate Fudge, Cake Batter and Cookies and Cream from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. seven days a week, if the planning board approved.

The pasta shop, in Katonah, would be owned and operated by the Abbate family, who also owns Le Fontane Restaurant in Katonah. They propose to make homemade pasta—including several types of ravioli—and sell it along with other gourmet ingredients.
