Valentine's Day Delights

The scoop on the offerings from our gourmet shops for Valentine's Day.

There is no shortage of delectable sweets around the Bedford area this Valentine's Day.

I visited six gourmet shops and markets in our area to find out what unique treats they were offering for this weekend's sweetheart holiday, and I can guarantee you will find something scrumptious to share with your loved one.

The can also provide a gift basket of your choosing. Like a bit of spice in your chocolate? They have a chocolate bar with chili called Ancho, from South America. Starting on Friday, they will have special Valentine's Day cakes and pastries available.

BEDFORD HILLS

The Perennial Chef has two inviting display cases filled to the brim with cookies, cakes, tarts, truffles, and French macaroons. Just for Valentine's Day, they have arrow-, heart- and lip-shaped cookies for $17.95 per pound. Plus a chocolate heart cake, filled with chocolate mousse, for $24. Their beautiful white and dark chocolate truffles are $6.25 for four pieces, or $3.25 for two. Everything is made in the shop by co-owner Chef Michael Williams.

Table Local Market

11 Babbitt Rd.

Table is offering several confectionary items—sugar cookie hearts, cupcakes sprinkled with candy hearts, and small chocolate-covered heart-shaped chocolate cakes, filled with… you guessed it, CHOCOLATE!  They also have dark chocolate and pecan toffee gift boxes from La Petite Occasion for $10.

If you prefer cheese as your dessert, Table will be happy to provide a plate complete with wine pairings from Fountainhead Wines in Bedford Hills.  Cheesemonger Patty touts a rich camembert from Old Chatham Farm in New York to accompany champagne, among several Valentine's Day recommendations.

KATONAH

Sgaglio's Marketplace

127 Katonah Ave.

914-232-9444

Sgaglio's always offers special menus for holidays, and Valentine's Day is no different. Red, pink and white sparkling sugar cookies adorn the display case above the cash registers. They also have a small chocolate truffle heart for $12.99. A slightly larger chocolate Valentine Cake with pink frosting roses is available for $15.99. Chocolate-dipped strawberries will be offered for $2 each.

If you are interesting in preparing your own Valentine's Day meal, they are running a special on a heart-shaped boneless prime rib for two persons priced at $15.99. Alternatively, you can order stew meat to make my slow-cooker Boeuf Bourguignon recipe found here.

William Nicholas

19 Edgemont Rd.

914-232-1109

You can fill up a box of colorful Valentine petite fours for your paramour at William Nicholas. Or pick up a heart-shaped box filled with toffee for $10.95.    Grab some red Valentine lollipops by the cash register for the kids.

POUND RIDGE

Plum Plums

72 Westchester Ave.

914-754-1525

You might not find sweets at this shop, but you will find a wonderful assortment of cheeses and gourmet products to fill up a gift basket. I would be very happy to receive provisions from this lovely shop.
