Meet Lady: 'A New Chance' Pet of the Week

Lady needs a home.

Lady is a two-year old, 50 pound, chocolate brown lab mix.

She was rescued from North Carolina, where she was found nursing her four three-week old puppies.

Now nourished and friendly and ready to be a great pet for any type of family, Lady is faithful, sweet, devoted and playful.

Her foster family said she "was the best Mom ever," and "really nice to everyone she met." She's also gentle and good for a family, couple or an individual.

Lady comes with a heart worm condition, which requires her to be kept quiet and low key for about 6 weeks. A New Chance Animal Rescue pays for the treatment, but her current foster care home is active home with lots of dogs and people.

Heart worm is only contagious if Lady is bit by a mosquito that then bites another dog who is not given it's monthly heartguard medicine—a very low risk with the pet-owning population of Bedford-Katonah. Lady is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations.

Can you foster Lady and officially adopt her when her treatment is completed and full health restored?

Contact at 914-205-7066.

Reining Cats & Dogs of Westchester would like to help Lady. Please forward additional information regarding Lady's Heartworm. Does she require medication for the next 6 weeks? What type of family would she be suitable for? Thank you. Debra Gittleman

Hi Debra, that's terrific. I've forwarded your comment to A New Chance organizers; you can also reach out to the phone number listed in the story. Thanks!

Debra, thank you so much. That is so kind of you. Lady will require a 2 night stay at the hospital where medication will be administered. Following that, she will go "home" for a period of very low activity for about 6 weeks. Once she receives a clean bill of health, she will lead a normal life because there is not any damage to her organs. She is the most incredible dog who can get along anywhere. One of her babies is still in foster care with her and the foster has other dogs, so we would like her to have the opportunity for lots of love and attention and time to rest. A New Chance, of course, will cover the expenses for her treatment which will take place at Fine Animal Hospital in Bedford Hills. I will call you directly.

Incredible news! Lady has found her forever home with a wonderful family in Pound Ridge who adopted her daughter with her!! She has begun her heart worm treatment and everything is going along smoothly. We can't wait for her to be all finished and get her clean bill of health, but we are all so thankful that she has settled into her new and happy life...and with one of her sweet babies too!
