Car Hits Telephone Pole, Closes Route 172

An accident on Route 172 near West Patent Road sent one victim to Northern Westchester Hospital.

A car traveling on Route 172 in Bedford hit a telephone pole near West Patent Road, causing the telephone pole to break and strike a second car following behind it, police said.

The accident, which took place at approximately 1:15 p.m., cause Route 172 to be closed in both directons. The road re-opened to traffic by 2:30 p.m.

One of the drivers involved was treated and released at the scene of the accident. The Katonah-Bedford Hills Ambulance Corps transported the second driver to Northern Westchester Hospital for minor injuries.

Both cars sustained damage, police said. Con Edison and Verizon responded to the scene to both repair the pole and maintain electrical and phone service.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the accident, police said. No arrests were made at the scene. The names of the individuals involved in the accident have not been released by police.
