Police Ticket Four for Peddling Magazines

The peddlers were selling without a permit.

Four men from out-of-state were issued appearance tickets on Monday because they were selling magazines door-to-door without a permit.

Officers responded to calls from multiple residents on Monday on Long Meadow Road, Clinton Road and Guard Hill Road who complained about the soliciting, which occurred between 7 and 8 p.m.

Police located the peddlers, four male—a 25 year old from Ohio, a 30 year old from Ohio, a 34 year old from Mississippi and a 30 year old from Missouri—and issued the tickets requiring them to return to town court on July 23.

Town code prohibits "itinerant trading, hawking, and peddling or making a sale by sample and taking orders for future delivery of goods, produce, wares, books, magazines and periodicals or merchandise of any description, in or upon the public highways or public places of the Town or upon private property, by calls from house to house, without obtaining a license as herein provided."

Police said via its Nixle communications alert that if any town resident has contact with people they believe are in violation of the town code, they can contact the Bedford Police at 914-241-3111 to report the activity.
